PlateWatch® Mailbox Captures Images of Suspect Vehicle in Hit & Run

Fenton, MO - In September 2022, a homeowner took to social media seeking help to identify a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident outside their home. The vehicle had struck a parked car and then fled the scene. Several neighbors chimed in, expressing concerns about the same vehicle, which they claimed had been driving recklessly in the area. Many residents suspected that the vehicle belonged to a fiber optic contractor working in the neighborhood.

The only information available came from a witness who described the vehicle as a black Ford F150 with "Black Ops" written on the side. After reading the posts, A PlateWatch® user decided to investigate using the images captured by their PlateWatch® mailbox along with Rekor® Scout™, a cloud-based A.I. license plate recognition solution.

With just the limited details from social media, the user used three filters: "Black," "Ford," and "Truck." Within seconds, he found a match: a black Ford F150 - Call of Duty Edition.

The images captured by PlateWatch® were clear, providing identifiable and actionable evidence, including the crucial piece of the puzzle, the vehicle’s license plate number.

This information was quickly shared with the victim and verified by their neighbor, who was the sole eyewitness. Later that day, the PlateWatch® user provided the evidence to the local police, who confirmed it was indeed the suspect vehicle.

The police officer acknowledged that PlateWatch® could be an invaluable tool for both homeowners and law enforcement in addressing neighborhood crime.
